I mean business!

So... I did this thing today. This has been on my mind for months. I kept telling myself that if I started booking more [paying] photography gigs, THEN I would make my business legitimate. Well... after booking five weddings and two brides in the process of considering me, I have finally registered my trade name with the Ohio Secretary of State! Well, the combination of all those positive things and the fact that my CPA cousin told me this should have happened on gig one... whoops! Let’s be honest here: I never dreamed of owning my own business. Although, after much thought, it really was the only way to use my creativity on a more regular basis. After all, it’s somewhat frowned upon to be overly creative in the accounting field (my day job). “My Day Job” – that’s funny to say. What months ago was my livelihood I am now calling my day job. It’s true though. This week has just been me catching up at work while also being in the midst of recruiting season (I am also the lead ...

Ella Corrine's Adoption

My earliest memories with my cousin, Mandy, were of her babysitting my sister and I as kids. I would stubbornly tell her, more than once, that I was going to run away while she was watching us. Luckily for her, my sister would reassure her that this was normal behavior and that by the time I would make it halfway across the field I would turn around and safely return. Trumbull County Courthouse Warren, OH As I grew up, although quite a few years younger, I could tell Mandy's passion was for kids. I can remember her working at Giant Eagle's 'Eagle's Nest' and visiting her at Mount Union for Family Weekend with my two younger cousins where she studied to become a teacher. She is now one of the best teachers I know. For instance, there was a student she had in class that was in need, so she had gone above and beyond her teaching responsibilities to provide the child with clothes and books.  Due to her passion for kids, she decided in her early 30's that sh...

Baby Jameson Richard Buck

When thinking about my time in the Akron-Canton area, I think about how blessed I have been to build so many great friendships. This area has been so kind to my career, given me lifelong friends, and broadened my network and opportunities. Like so many of my friends, Emily and her husband, Kyle, have been working on growing their family. She has been so supportive and trusting of me to let me share my hobbies with her during some of her recent life-changing events. From making her oldest son’s 3 rd birthday cake to capturing her second pregnancy, I have gotten to share these moments with her. Even more recently, I was invited to the hospital to snap a few pictures of her youngest son’s arrival. Emily and I work closely with each other, so we often update each other on a weekly, if not daily, basis. When first learning about her second pregnancy, she had informed us that her due date was June 28, 2018 (just after our busiest time at work!). Somewhere along the way, the doct...

Why Photography?

My family, friends and close colleagues have watched me over the last two years occupy my free time with wreath-making, knitting and cake decorating. There is really no rhyme or reason why I picked these activities. I made a few wreaths as Christmas presents one year and was told they were good enough to sell. They only took me about an hour to make, so I gave it a shot. I have always wanted to learn how to knit. My ex's aunt taught me during Christmas one year and although I love this craft, it is quite time consuming! And the whole cake decorating phase came after the breakup of a 10-year relationship when I took a class to get me out of the house. It just so happened that I really enjoyed it and wasn't terrible at it. In thinking about how I got into these hobbies, what comes to mind is my long time love for anything arts & crafts. When 3-4 years old, I would color endless Precious Moments coloring pages for my grandma. In elementary school, my mom signed me up for ...
